2025 - 2026 Season Kick-off Information

Welcome back Turbos families!

We’re excited to be kicking off another new season. As our first ice times approach, we wanted to send out some information to families with some important information.

Team Formation

At this time of year we get a lot of questions about the teams. By this point, we do have a good idea of which teams we will be hosting for the season but as registrations are still coming in, this is not locked in stone. For the 2025-2026 season, we will be hosting teams in the following divisions:

  • Fun 1 (learn to skate)
  • Fun 2 (learn to play)
  • Fun 3
  • U12B
  • U16A
  • U16B
  • 18+AA
  • 18+A
  • 18+B

If your player’s division isn’t on the above list, you should have received a phone call or email outlining options for your players. These typically include the option to play up a division, play down a division or play for a nearby association.

Coaches

Our volunteer coaches play an important role in creating a positive sporting environment for your players. They are required to complete a number of training courses through the Coaching Association of Canada and Ringette Ontario. They help players learn new skills and have fun each season. You can read more about our coaches and their experience on our website under Coaches Corner.

Schedule

For our Fun 3 - U16 players, practices start Sept. 9. These divisions practice on Tuesday nights. Practices are at Karl Homuth Arena, however once the Preston Auditorium reopens later this fall, practices will move across the street to that arena. Until games start in October, teams may also have some additional practices on Sunday mornings during the ice time reserved for games.

You can find specific details on each division’s webpage where you can also subscribe to the team calendar. Any practices, games (once scheduled) and any team events will automatically appear in your calendar.

Equipment

For those new to ringette, the following equipment is required:

  • Sport skates (not figure skates)
  • CSA approved helmet with chin strap (no bicycle helmets permitted)
  • Ringette face mask (this is different from hockey face masks)
  • Hockey gloves
  • BNQ certified neck protector
  • Elbow pads
  • Shoulder pads (new this year - all players up to U19 must wear shoulder pads)
  • Shin pads
  • Ringette girdle and pants - or - hockey pants, athletic protector and socks
  • Ringette stick

Much of the equipment is the same as players use for hockey and available readily in most sports stores. You can also check Play it Again sports in Kitchener or Guelph for used equipment or our Cambridge Turbos Equipment Swap Facebook Group. New this year, SportsChek at Cambridge Center is carrying ringette equipment. They are offering 20 - 25% off for Cambridge Turbos families on Sept. 12 - 14. Find details on our Facebook page

For our new, younger players who are trying ringette for the first time, we do have some limited equipment available for loan for the first season. Sizing and quantities are limited. Please complete this online form to request equipment. Equipment is available on a first come, first served basis. Families will be contacted to confirm availability and pick up time.

Additional information

Additional Ice Times

From time to time, teams may add additional ice times. We offer power skating / skills and drills practices for Fun 3 - U16B teams during part of the season. This takes place Thursday evenings from late fall to the end of the calendar year. These additional practices are hosted by Cambridge National Ringette League players and is a great opportunity for additional player development. Occasionally, teams may also take advantage of extra ice if it becomes available during the season. This will be communicated through your coaches.

Tournaments

Teams from Fun 2 - U16 will play in various tournaments throughout the season. The number of tournaments varies by team but is typically 3 tournaments, including the annual Cambridge Ringette Tournament that takes place Jan 2 - 4, 2026 and the end of year tournament (date and location are TBD). Your coaches will provide additional details on the tournaments for each team.

Special Events

Throughout the year, both teams and the association host various special events including team building activities, the annual Cambridge Santa Claus Parade and our year end banquet. These are a great way to get to know the other Cambridge Turbos families and have fun with friends. Watch for details throughout the season.

Budgets and Fundraising

Your team manager should develop a team budget to help track and identify additional costs throughout the year (tournaments, team activities etc.). To help fund these additional or optional costs, teams can organize a variety of fundraising activities. Cambridge Ringette Association participates in the Charitable Bingos through Cambridge Bingo Centres and all teams are required to provide at least 2 volunteers to receive funding from this initiative. For information or to volunteer, please contact Catharine Marchand from our board who is our lead bingo contact.

Questions

If you have any questions about or throughout the season, we’re here to help! Please contact the association at info@cambridgeringette.ca or speak with your coaches or team managers.
